Thomas is a friend of ours who DJs under the name Ajax,
and is like a grandfather to a bunch of whippersnapper mix masters
and is a maverick of the electrobootysrock kind of sets. He
is a super nice guy who looks remarkably like Rod Stewart, and
is one of the promoters of The Bang Gang, the best Friday night,
no, the best any night in Sydney. As part of promoting their
night, the boys do a monthly zine called the Fagazine which
is full of funny, fucked up shit they find amusing. We were
going to run a mix Ajax did to accompany the Fagazine here on
our website, but his interview is more fun. Ok why not, if we
get more than say, 5 emails to gimmethemixoriwillgiveyouhell@modularpeople.com
well post it up.
Why
did you name yourself after a domestic cleaning product?
Because it ended in an x, everyone was doin it in 93.
What
was the inspiration behind this monster mash of a mix?
I do music for parades and stuff, you know glitzy fashion
wankatoriums then I just continue them until I have sweated
enough tears. I like doing re-edits and super mixes of peoples
stuff to make it sound better... hahaha..I just like a lot
of music. Its like rap they gotta a lot to say so they
rhyme fast, lotsa a words etcetec.. the same with me except
I stole your pain mama.
How
long have you been djing for?
Nine big ones although 5 if you count mixing.
Is
there a particular mix you think any aspiring dj should hear?
These are the best...Avalanches, 2 many djs no. 2, First
dj Yoda How to Cut and paste, Z Trip, DAMNnation mix, Andy
Votel - Girls Cry.
What
was the best gig you ever played?
Bang Gang, week in week out shits on everything
. I would
have said Trash or Sonar but I havent played there.
The Good Vibrations Festival was very memorable with Damage
and Dangerous blowing up the mixer playing work it (Daft Punk)
for fifteen minutes and then blowing up the crowd when we
slammed in the new mixer.. suspense drove those goonies crazy.
Who
is your favourite dj?
Dexter... big poobies to Agent 86 who is a top rocker too.
And I think on occasion I am the best I have ever heard.
Have
you ever pretended to mix and just put on a mix CD instead?
I would like to do that some place. I sometimes mix off my
CDs, for my re-edits, but never for more than a couple
of minutes, I use them as bridging tools. OKAY
