Daft Punk

Following on from their successful 2010 return with the Tron:Legacy soundtrack, Daft Punk have now commissioned their favourite earth friends to recreate and remix the original compositions for the appropriately titled Reconfigured version.

Here we have Modular's own Tame Impala replacing the head-numbing bass of End Of Line with an infectiously haunting chorus of synthetic organs and their signature whirlwinds of psychedelic bliss, dragging the original version out of the neon straight edges of the cyberworld and into a joyfully unpredictable space.

Listen: Tame Impala - Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind? (Erol Alkan Rework)

The don of the modern discotheque, the man who practically invented the years 1999 - 2003 as London night TRASH (R.I.P.) set the standard for global indie dance hedonistic good times, Erol Alkan has given Innerspeaker album cut "Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?" his golden touch.

Video: Tame Impala - 'Expectation'

And here is the warped kaleidoscope of sound and vision that is the 'Expectation' video. Directed by Clemens Habicht in a forest just outside of Paris on a day off during Tame Impala's European tour, the Expectation video sees the band spend a day in the autumn wild with a 360 degrees camera and a few flares for company.

Tame Impala Wins the 2010 J Award Australian Album of the Year

Tame Impala Wins the 2010 J Award Australian Album of the Year

Tame Impala capped off an exceptional year of international acclaim by taking out the 2010 J Award for album of the year for their debut album, InnerSpeaker. The award acts as a signpost for a destination the quartet has been headed towards since the release of their debut EP in 2008, and no doubt a brief rest stop before the band continues onwards and upwards, to infinity and beyond.

Conceived mostly inside the head of principal songwriter and bedroom boffin Kevin Parker, InnerSpeaker was recorded when the band decamped to a house overlooking the Indian Ocean in Injidup. Since it's inception in this isolated outpost in Western Australia the record has found it's way onto the stereos and into the hearts of fans, critics and their musician peers all over the world, with the universal reception overwhelmingly warm.

Although released in May, InnerSpeaker is continuing to connect with fans across Australia and otherwise, and will see the band on the road until mid-2011, by which time, if the talk is to be believed, album 2 will already be well underway.

Tame Impala and Modular would like to thank the triple j staff and their listeners for their ongoing support of fresh Australian talent.

Video: Tame Impala - 'Lucidity' (Behind the Scenes)

""Lucidity" is the latest track to be taken from Tame Impala's debut, InnerSpeaker. A rollicking, searing rocket ride, "Lucidity" comes accompanied by a (literally) spacey video, directed by Robert Hales.

Shot outside the country town of Mildura, 500 odd kilometres from Melbourne, the "Lucidity" video was a leap into the unknown, a series of experiments and blind faith launches into the final frontier, involving cameras being launched into space inside weather balloons, tracking all that went on below, including Tame Impala ripping through "Lucidity".

Tame Impala

Tame Impala came together in 2007 after floating around various Perth outfits in one bastard form or another and hit upon their current steez over a shared appreciation of drum beats, Leaf Hound and the challenging confines of living off $5 a week.
