Modular and Sydney Festival Presents John Cale
Founding member of seminal, experimental rock band, The Velvet Underground; John Cale is one of the major sources of inspiration for the Australian avant garde and experimental music movement.
John Cale's astounding body of work encompasses that of a musician, singer, songwriter, producer and visual artist. As a founding member of the Velvet Underground, Cale's career spans over 4 decades and in more recent years Cale has worked with such artists as LCD Soundsystem and producer Danger Mouse. John Cale's achivement in visual arts culminated in his representation of Wales in The Venice Biennale in 2009.
As a very special part of Circa 1979: Signal to Noise, John Cale will deliver a keynote address at the Seymour Centre on Friday 15th of January. This not to be missed event will feature Cale's experience in Proto-Punk, New York Avant-Garde and a collection of his works, including collaborations with Andy Warhol and others. Directly following John Cale's Keynote Address at the Seymour centre will be the Signal to Noise Opening Party. Be the first to see this extraordinary exhibition and join us for the party!
John Cale will also be performing works from his astounding catalogue of music, spanning from The Velvet Underground and Paris 1919 to the present, on Saturday 16 January. With his band in tow and in the stunning setting of the Enmore Theatre, this show is sure to be a breathtaking experience. Supporting John Cale will be Sydney maestro, Jack Ladder, who sights the legendary performer as one of his own musical influences.

"A John Cale live concert is nothing short of an experience. Once you've got past the realisation that you're in the presence of a true legend, a man who has had more influence on modern music than virtually anyone, who was pioneering the classical/rock crossover before rock'n'roll was out of its infancy, you usually notice that being in the audience of the great man is something of an endurance test. If John Cale deserves to be lauded for one thing above all others that he's achieved over his incredible career it's his ability to sound as avant garde, as relevant and as challenging today as he ever has." - Jenni Cole, MusicOHM
Circa 1979: Signal to Noise is offering a package to see John Cale and his band at the Enmore Theatre (Saturday January 16) PLUS a ticket to John Cale's Keynote and Opening Party at the Seymour Centre (Friday January 15) for $95.
