The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast were one of the first bands to have LPs recorded and released by the quintessential underground of label of the time, M Squared. Their aquatically inspired melodies radically broadened pre-conceptions of where music and noise overlapped.

"Tael of a Saeghors / The Dumbwaiter", the first single by The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast became M Squared's best selling release introducing a wide and often welcoming audience to an era of musical tinkering and experimentation never before seen in Australia. During frequent live performances in the early eighties, the "Makers" could be seen performing beside their irreplaceable upright piano occasionally adorned with live crustaceans and other marine life. These challenging and absorbing live performances saw the band becoming a staple act during M Squared's residency at Brownies on Oxford Street.

Founding member, Shane Fahey, is still heavily involved in the independent music industry managing both Endgame Records and the Megaphon recording studio.
