Sydney Post Punk Band #4: Pel Mel
After forming in Newcastle in 1979 Pel Mel moved to Sydney in the early eighties and took the post punk scene by storm. Their mild take on experimentation and obvious leaning towards smooth musician ship rather than harsh noise gained the band a large following.
Pel Mel's professionalism and talent was plain to see in their incredible debut single "No Word From China" which was features on Count Down in 1981. Over the five years Pel Mel toured and performed together they released three albums and became the only band of the Post Punk movement to briefly break into the mainstream music scene.
Their live reputation also lived up the groundswell as an endless gig schedule ensured Pel Mel became known as one of the hardest working and most successful bands of the era.
