Hamburg's Marco Niemerski, AKA Tensnake, is one of the biggest names globally in cutting edge house music and disco. He's no regular noddy behind the decks, creating his sets in real time. 100% live. Pure feeling & experience.
You can see Tensnake all over the world in the coming couple weeks, notably at the Terminal Projeckt for Vivid in Sydney this weekend (June 9) & in Croatia for FOR 2013 (June 21-23) alongside the like of 2manydjs, James Murphy, Tame Impala and heaps more. The full line-up is available here.
You're predominately playing live sets at the moment. Did this DJ mix reinvigorate your desire to DJ more or will the experience of performing live always supersede?
I think for the future I would actually like to expand the live thing, including visuals, singers etc.
I have just finished my album work and it turned out to be very song based. I could imagine putting a show together for festivals or concert venues and then do DJ sets only in clubs
Is there a concept or theme hidden in this mix?
Just a couple of fresh tunes that I like at the moment. Oh, and it also features a new track that just came out on Monday this week. It's called 58bpm and features Fiora, a singer from Australia now based in Berlin.
There's so much attention on Berlin as Germany's dance epicentre. How does this relate to Hamburg? What do you like about living there?
What I like about Hamburg is that it leaves me enough room to be creative and productive. Less people, less parties, less stress etc.
plus it is a really green city. Lots of trees and bees. When you are traveling a lot and spend many days in hotel rooms and on airports you really appreciate a bit of nature.
Lots of touring in the pipeline this summer. Is winter the best time for studio activity?
The touring is pretty much constantly happening. The festival season has just started in Europe and I am looking very forward to playing in Croatia again this year.
It is a really beautiful place and the festivals have the best vibes, are not too big. But yeah, I guess studio activity is always happening in between, mostly during the week.
What are you working towards at the moment?
Like I mentioned before I am very happy that I have finished my album which will come out later this year. I spent the last 6 months 24/7 working on it and you get to the point where you just want to get it finished and let it go for a while. This is happening now. Not working on any productions and I am just looking forward to discover a lot of new music.
What is your dream location to play?
I always love locations that are close to the water, sunny open air places. This year I was playing in Miami on James Zabielas' boat cruise party during WMC; that was pretty amazing.
2 weeks ago I played at the Dalt Villa in Ibiza on the last day of IMS which was pretty amazing too. It is a very old and historic place and the view is incredible.
Hawaii and some places in South America would be amazing... don't know why, but somehow I have not played there yet... Ah! There is so much stuff to see.
