Modcast #171: Riton's Nu Nu Rave Mix

Responsible for taking Beni's Love On The Run / Summer's Gone EP to peak club delirium with his charged remix, Riton is a bit of a hero around these parts. French slang for "Henry", the electronica musician's resume covers all bases from hip-hop roots to krautrock ode Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, the nostalgic house tag-team with the late DJ Medhi Carte Blanche and breakbeat soul of Symphony Hall. This latest mix is an absolute boot-rattler. Get to know everyone's favourite character below.

Describe a day in the life of Riton.

Coffee, skate, croissant, studio, studio, lunch, studio, joint, studio, go out for dinner or cook something amazing, studio, studio, Steven Colbert, face time my girl, joint, sleep.

I hear you've only taken up skateboarding recently. Late bloomer?

Very late but I love it. It's perfect for a break in the studio and keeping myself a bit active. Even if I just go round and round in circles really fast I'm in heaven. I can do a couple of basic tricks but I'm not in a hurry to break anything again cos I've had two serious bike injuries over the years.

Beni actually gave us loads of dirt on you that we can't repeat. What do you have on him?

Actually back to skating for a minute (especially if we're keeping it clean) he's pretty fearless

Your last mixtape Can't Stop the Clock came with a provocative trailer directed by Saam Farahmand (Part of the Weekend Never Dies). If there was a video component to this mix, what would the concept be and who would it star?

Well as I get confused for him a lot, obviously Ryan Gosling would play me in a story of my life. Having said that he hasn't made a good film since Drive so I'm sure one more dull film wouldn't hurt.

I'm assuming you're a krautrock aficionado judging by the wonderful Eine Kleine Nacht Musik album you made for us in 2008 and the very kosmische Die Verboten project with Fergadelic and the Dewaele brothers. Can you recommend 5 essential german progressive albums for the uninitiated.

Go for the classics and pretty much every lp by Kraftwork, Neu!, Cluster, Harmonia and anything Holger Czukay was involved in (most famously Can).

What's the funniest thing you've found on the internet for a while?

The best thing I've seen is Bound2. I'm in love with that song and video. There's the James Franco/Seth Rogan parody which I think is brilliant but I want to state for the record that I think the original video is really on point and while it's humorous, I love the style so much and the track's great - sorry!! Nobody agrees with me I know.
