#51: Tame Impala Mixtape #3 - Jay Watson
Tame Impala's skins man, Jay Watson, delivers a prog-centric tribute to seminal noisemakers and personal favourites, Yes. Stick around for the fourth and final mixtape, next week.
Tracklist
1. Yes - "Close to the Edge" from the album Close to the Edge
"I don't like to muck around, I'm going to throw you all deep into the greatest piece of 21st century composition (according to me and countless long-haired nerds everywhere). Title track of the 1972 classic. Bill Brufords swansong. Boundary pushing."
2. Yes - "Roundabout" from the album Fragile
"Track 1, previous album. A stomping blue-sky pop gem (one of their few seventies hit singles) with both folk and fuzzed out riffs. Guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and keyboardist Rick Wakeman excel at wailing groovily. Sick harmonies."
3. Yes - "The Gates of Delirium" from the album Relayer
"First track off Relayer, the first post-Wakeman album. New man jazz nerd Patrick Moraz brings a brilliantly epic touch to the keyboard proceedings. First 10 minutes are intense prog buffoonery before exploding into a devastatingly triumphant 5/4 mid section.
4. Yes - "And You And I" from the album Close to the Edge
"Second side of Close to the Edge. Yes at their most sublime."
5. Yes - "Owner of a Lonely Heart" from the album 90125
"Cheesy 80's Yes. I think it's hilarious, stupid and brilliant all at the same time. My buddy's current ringtone. Complete with synth-orch hits and a badass modulation into the triumphant outro."
So there you go. My mixtape is entirely made out of Yes. All of you internet-commenting ball-chefs can go on about how Yes suck for the next 2 weeks, but you won't faze me.

Event: Faxhibition
The Faxhibition was an idea that first came to life in a meeting of The Groop way back in September of last year. The basics are simple, all artists involved in the exhibition have to submit their artwork via an outdated thermal fax machine of offices past replying to the brief "the fax of life".

Modular Touring Presents LCD Soundsystem + Hot Chip
"This is our last tour. So this is our crazy, no punches pulled... we have to do the weirdest stuff. It's like the most ramshackle basement show ever. It's the end of this type of thing for us." - James Murphy, LCD Soundsystem
Two pioneering titans of pleasurably innovative modern pop music, New York City's LCD Soundsystem and London's Hot Chip, are coming to Australia in July to go head to head.
LLLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIVVVE.
Do we really need to write anything else? Ok.

Listen: Flying Lotus - "Computer Face//Pure Being"
Steven Ellison, better known as producer maestro Flying Lotus, is set to release his anticipated Cosmogramma record early next month. Ellison's a bit of a collaborative guru - from having worked with the likes of Gonjasufi and Thom Yorke to providing much of the 'bumper music' for Adult Swim (which paved the way for this berserk NSFW video directed by Eric Wareheim).
We strongly suggest you to have a listen to 'Computer Face // Pure Being', from the upcoming Cosmogramma.
