Keep reading after the jump for an interview with the techspert-half of the group, Adam Bozzetto, and the tracklist for this week's hour of Modcast power.
So how did you guys meet?
Both of us have been on the Sydney DJ circuit for a while, and I can't even remember how long ago it was that we first met. Tho we decided one night at the Flinders Hotel about 2 years ago that maybe we should try and make some tunes together.
What are your individual contributions to wordlife?
Barney is the vibe director and I am the techspert. Barney comes to me with about 50 new songs/ideas each week I reckon. He comes into the studio with lots of samples and I get them into the computer. In saying that, the roles are often reversed.
Do you have day jobs? Barney, you worked at Modular in a previous life right?
I know Barney has been in and around the Modular office many times over the years. He also sells vinyl at the 'Record Store' every now and then. I work for the not for profit organization Heaps Decent, started by two Sydney legends Nina Agzarian (aka Nina Las Vegas) and Andrew Levins. Running music making workshops everywhere from 'The Block' in Redfern, Juvi Justice centres throughout NSW to outback Australia.
Daniel Merriweather dropped one of your minimal bass collabs last week. Quite a departure from the vocal house stylings of the Club Mod EP. Is there a broad scope to wordlife?
I never really thought from the start that we were in a particular genre. We have definitely produced more 'house' and 'techno' styled tracks of recent but it didn't feel like we were doing something different when we came up with these songs with Daniel. It will sound different to people who have heard many of our releases but to us it still sounds like wordlife, of course with Daniels style and writing coming just as much into the mix as our own.
Who would be your ultimate vocal feature?
Wow were to start. Collaborating with Daniel Merriweather was a pretty good start right? One of the best singers Australia has ever produced. I guess right now anyone that sounds different. Personally I would love to do something with rappers like Myyki Blanco, Angel Haze and Le1f.
You're about to hit the road to support the release. What antics can be expected?
Shirts off, lots of dancing, good music and staying til the club closes. We bring microphones for guest vocalist and birthday shout outs.
Have you started working on a follow up rekkid?
We've almost finished it. We have guest vocals from Chicago Ghetto House legend Dj Funk on the next one, which is pretty exciting. Plus we have been working hard at lining up a bunch of collabs locally and internationally. We're planning to spend some time in the US towards the end of this year working with different artists.
