Cut Copy Updates and Happenings

Things have been a little quiet lately for camp Cut Copy - or have they? The boys recently put rumours firmly to rest with the following message (we've taken the liberty of picking out some highlights), sent out to their loyal fan base late last week, bringing us all well and truly up to speed and into the 'now'.

"Dan spent the majority of 2009 re-creating the Blade Runner soundtrack on his recently acquired CS-80 synthesizer. Note for note, arpeggio for arpeggio. Hopefully his interpretation of Vangelis's masterpiece will eventually see the light of day. He has also been busy re-establishing the Cutters Records empire by releasing records and hosting parties, and occasionally rocking a fine Grizzly Adams beard.

Tim is still firmly stuck in the 90's. He interviewed seminal guitar band Pavement for Russh magazine and he recently procured an original piece of Daniel Johnston artwork. It now hangs above his bed.

Mitchell has been spending his days establishing a tennis league for the indie rock community of Melbourne. They even have special t-shirts with their name embodied on them. He tells me his serve is his biggest asset. Feel free to contact him directly for membership.

Collectively however we have been camped out in a warehouse on the outskirts of Melbourne, finishing writing and recording for album number 3. More on that very soon."

#41: Tao Lin - 'Calmly Emotional' Mixtape

Tao Lin (b. 1983) is the Brooklyn based poet/author responsible for last year's cult hit novella, Shoplifting From American Apparel. His anticipated second novel, Richard Yates, is due to be released by Melville House in September.

Tao: This mixtape contains songs I've consistently listened to the past 1-7 years. I have ordered the songs in a manner that seems satisfying to me. The tone of this mixtape could be described as "calmly, idly, nostalgically, at-times 'energetically' emotional." I have excluded songs that would, to a certain degree, disturb that tone. One could elaborate on the tone by describing it as "low-level, peaceful, considered 'depression'/'inactivity' experienced mostly with acceptance and sometimes with gratitude." Other mixtapes/playlists by me can be viewed here (American Apparel) and here (top 25 most-played).
