Modular Welcomes Jonathan Boulet
The term "jack of all, master of all" isn't exactly one that gets bandied about but is one that may well apply to the most recently inked player in the Modular clubhouse, Jonathan Boulet.
A precociously inspired 21 year old skate rat from Sydney's northwest, Jonathan Boulet makes a brand of ceremoniously uplifting, deeply colourful pop that sounds like something for which you've been searching but never thought you'd find. Beamed direct from his Castle Hill garage, his self-titled debut is a life affirming skip across the indie pop spectrum, from melancholic acoustic laments to more abstract electronica-tinged instrumentals, to full blown Panavision pop. It could have all gone so wrong but instead came out so right, and makes for a startlingly gobsmacking start to what could well be an evolving, fascinating catalogue.
"A Community Service Announcement" is the title of the first single, a glorious garage band pocket symphony that feels like rolling in a field of daisies, and has already received attention from the likes of FBI and Triple J. The debut album, Jonathan Boulet, will see a release before years end on Modular Recordings. Until then, hold onto your hats and prepare for the sonic equivalent of summer.
