R.I.P. Nagi Noda
It was with immense shock and sadness that we received the news of the passing of one of the most ingeniously sparkling creative minds of our generation in Nagi Noda. We were extremely lucky not only to have the pleasure of witnessing her work, but also had the utmost honour of having a working relationship with Nagi, and it's heart-wrenching to see her time cut so short at just 33 years old.
Nagi not only created some of the most innovatively arresting work we'd ever seen as a video and commercial director and art director, but was also one of the most incredibly infectious, down to earth, inspiring personalities we've ever had the good fortune to meet.
Nagi directed the video for "Hearts On Fire" by Cut Copy and it was the last music video she ever ended up making, an opportunity which we're eternally thankful to have had.
EDIT: Seems I was wrong, the last video she made was the most excellent video below for Japanese artist Meg.

Big Smiles, Big Wins
Every year, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) holds a little event that goes by the name of the ARIA Awards. Yesterday, nominees across twenty-eight categories in the 2008 ARIA Awards were announced at a special industry gathering in Sydney. We are psyched to tell you that from the Modular family, The Presets received eight nominations, Cut Copy received two and Wolfmother have gotten one as well.

#17: Ben Aqua
We've stayed relatively true to our promise to provide regular Modcast updates, and here's the latest. We got Ben Aqua to hit the sliders this time around and he came back to us with a stellar outerspace disco mix that you really should get your head around. All the way from Austin, Texas in the US of A, Ben is a photographer, artist and DJ who's work has been published in NYLON Magazine, Arkitip, XLR8R and Fecal Face. He's also a founding member of the photo team OK! FRESH and art collective Totally Wreck. Under the name of MVSCLZ, Ben makes what he describes as "hyper electronic Hi-NRG disco project from the nether worlds of GYMNASIA".
The Tough Alliance Featured In The FADER
The Tough Alliance landed on the cover of the FADER Magazine this month, right next to their home boy Busy Signal. Read their feature story online and in the mag, just in time for the October release of their album in Australia, A New Chance. Previously released on their own label Sincerely Yours, Modular is proud to offer The Tough Alliance a proper Australian release for all of you like us who won't fork out the coin for import prices. Tight arses.

Tame Impala EP
The first official single and lead track from the Tame Impala EP is "Desire Be, Desire Go". The band rigged it up to stream from their MySpace earlier this week and now we have too.
The debut EP (set your peepers on the cover art hovering above) is five tracks of untamed enthusiasm and unexpected delight penned by Kevin Parker (Guitar, Vocals) on his eight track. Beginning with "Desire Be, Desire Go's" loose groove verses, to "Slide Through My Fingers" rollicking desert trip of a journey, "Half Full Glass Of Wine's" half-speed double-awesome riffing, "41 Mosquitoes Flying In Formation's" unstoppable shake and "Skeleton Tiger's" marching band drums and haunting lead guitar, the Tame Impala EP has all the beauty of a lion's mane, and all the power of it's roar. A beautiful snapshot into what lies within the beast.

#16: Teki Latex
Whilst the better part of the Southern Hemisphere freezes their nuts off over Winter, Teki Latex has whipped this mix of summer jams up especially for the Northern Hemisphere. However there is no reason we can't pump up the volume and dance like a loon to warm ourselves up too. As an independent artist and member of Paris-based electro hip-hop outfit TTC, Teki is also co founder of Institubes record label to boot. With all this in motion, he still found time to piece together the latest Modcast for us. So props to him!
Video: More Ladyhawke Video Diaries
In the third entry of the series, Pip shows us the insides and outs of her time at Glastonbury, eats a some KFC, demolishes a hotdog and just generally wails out to crowds of thousands.
The fourth clip details her first show in Paris at Nouveau Casino> and her first London headline show at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, with some drunken chatter thrown into the mix for good measure.
Suss the previous entries on YouTube.

#15: Eine Kleine Tonite Music
Eine Kleine Tonite Music is the mixtape pieced together by Eine Kleine Nachtmusik AKA Henry Smithson AKA Riton, with the assistance of the graphic equalizer and Eine Kleine artwork synthesizer Fergadelic, also the man behind the Tonite clothing label. Eine Kleine Tonite Music is a collection of cosmic, floaty Krautrock that inspired the Eine Kleine Nachtmusik record, straight from Fergadelic
