Recommends: Canyons

Canyons' eagerly awaited debut full-length Keep Your Dreams dropped in Australia this week, and in anticipation of the international release on November 14/15, we asked Leo from Canyons to show us what takes his fancy in and around the Internet. He shares a couple of his favourite music sites, and a couple of LOLs.

Ghost Capital

Ghost Capital

Like a portal into a sonic parallel world that I (and I imagine many others) do not hold a key to, Ghost Capital has enlightened and informed me of so many cherished bits of music and sounds.

Always in-depth and informative and often with high quality images of the record sleeves and inner labels (as well as 320 rips), this is a serious music blog for serious and curious music lovers.

It still baffles me as to how people such as the man behind Ghost Capital manage to A) find the time to discover and source such a wide array of obscure, rare and most importantly amazing music and then B) find even more time and are generous enough with it (and with their music collections) to publish long and informative posts for everybody to enjoy. Bravo I say!

I like to think that if I met these people outside of the internet, I would probably like them as human beings. People that see the value in sharing without expecting things in return. I'm not talking about bloggers who post the newest whatever tune for free so they get more hits or DJ gigs. I'm talking about bloggers like Mr Ghost Capital who provide an important cultural duty by sharing, in an accurate and interesting way, otherwise impossible to find / purchase, long out of print music that deserves to be heard.

He's keeping musicians, bands, producers that strive to create innovative, original, beautiful music, inspired. As well as bringing happiness to countless other listeners. Hats off to Ghost Capital.

Noise in my Head

Noise in my Head

Sometimes things from other countries are better than the things from our own. And sometimes they're not. This is one of those times.

Noise in My Head is a weekly two hour 'freeform sonic excursion' that broadcasts every Sunday night from 10pm till Midnight, on Melbourne's community radio station 3RRR 102.7FM. And luckily for the people that live in countries other than Australia, sometimes the things from other countries ARE better than the things from our own, like Noise in My Head is for them.

And even luckier for them (and us), they can go to www.noiseinmyhead.com.au and stream or download every show. Guest mixes and interviews from / with the likes of Daniele Baldelli, Juan Atkins, Sal Principato, Gavin Russom, Lovefingers, DJ Garth etc etc.

So next time you're at your computer and sick of what is playing from your iTunes, head to Noise In My Head and refresh your ears. You'll also enjoy the excellent radio voice and persona of the show's host, Michael Kucyk.

Generally a quick youtube search for animals doing funny stuff will be rewarding. Take a look at these Morroccan tree goats:

Or these foxes that discover a trampoline:

Or this cat giving the thumbs up. You've probably seen it before but have it again. And get a load of the dachshund pillow cases. I reckon I'd probably be friends with this person too. Dachshund cushions and a cat that gives a thumbs up = good combo.
