His most famous work may be the cover of Sonic Youth's Dirty, but the current Mike Kelley exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris reveals a stunning, dense and uncategorisable catalogue of works across a multitude of disciplines that goes far beyond art rock.
Taking in key periods of his oeuvre and works of collage, sculpture, painting, drawing, installation and video to reveal his uniquely skewed, modern American view on popular culture, belief and education systems, sexuality and self-created myths that's at times brash and vulgar, at others incredibly oblique, often beautifully arresting and never not intriguing and entertaining.
A visceral sensory onslaught, a trip to the "Beaubourg" is a must on any trip to Paris, and especially this summer with Kelley in the house.
