Recommends: Shane McCauley

Shane McCauley is a New York based photographer and filmmaker. Over the past 7 years, he has globetrotted with Mad Decent boss and friend Diplo to more than 30 countries across the world.

He took so many photos and saw so many amazing things - enough to fill a book. So that's what they did - together he and Diplo put together a tome documenting their adventures. It's called '128 Beats Per Minute' and is, in their own words, 'Diplo's Visual Guide to Music, Culture and Everything in Between'. Here's a video teaser to show just how jealous of their lives we should all be:

The book is available now online through Amazon and Urban Outfitters.

In his time away from traveling and contributing to magazines like Flaunt, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, Shane has delivered us this Recommends:

1. Maya Deren- Meshes of the Afternoon.
Maya Deren was one of the original auteurs of American film. She made a lot of films that would be considered fresh by even todays standards. She is a big influence on David Lynch and Kenneth Anger.

2. Kenneth Anger- Fireworks
Kenneth Anger is still alive and in his 80s. The man has a pentagram on his chest and has recently joined the Church of Aleister Crowley. 'Scorpion Rising' was a big influence on David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet' and although 'Lucifer Rising' and the 'Invocation of my Demon Brother' may be more popular, this, an early film he made as a teenager, is still my favorite.

3. Robert Frank's The Americans
Robert Frank is a huge influence on me. In the 1950s he traveled from his home in Switzerland to the United States to document the culture of America at the time. It was a snapshot of the country and it is now a timeless classic.

4. Alec Soth's Niagra
Alec Soth documented the honeymoon destination in this book along with people's (often funny) ideas about relationships and love.

5. Fugazi
This band and this band alone is largely responsible for me being the human being I am. When I was 14 I heard this band for the first time and it was my gateway into the world of punk rock, DIY and eventually art.
