Modular presents: Odd Future Sideshows

After selling out their shows at the Sydney Opera House in a matter of minutes, we are pleased to announce additional shows for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Crate Minds: Gavin Russom

Gavin Russom is a multitalented guy. He's released a stack of 12" through DFA. Before delving into music this he'd established himself as an artist. You might know him as Black Meteoric Star or recognise him from his music and art installation work with Delia Gonzalez.

Now he performs under the guise The Crystal Ark and is performing at Vivid.

We asked him to give us an insight into his record collection. He responded with these records and below mixtape using only the 10 records.

Superbien: Making Of The Vivid Webclip

The art of projections using 3D mapping technology may not have been around for long but French collective Superbien have already established themselves and masters of the industry. They earn't this accolade for introducing a completely unique approach to the art form. They are architects of light, orchestrating free flowing visual spectacles that sync seamlessly with sound and space. There's a certain awareness and respect for the shapes and buildings they project onto and a palette of colours and effects they use are as mesmerizing as the next.

Crate Minds: Bamboo Musik DJs

Bamboo Musik is one of Melbourne's more unique monthly club nights. The concept was born during the dwindling moments of a house party and has now become a regular attraction in the club calendar. Expect dress up dance floors and a casual vibe of musical discovery. This week Rohan and Misha, the Bamboo Musik DJs, take us on a tour of the big record store in the cloud.

Bamboo Musik are performing along side The Crystal Ark at Mad Racket's Studio Party at Vivid Live.

Modular Mixtape: Vivid Live 2011

Following on from the line-up announcement earlier this week, here's a little sampler of the sounds and melodies due to bounce around the walls of the Sydney Opera House in a few months time. It's a mix of names and genres that come together like a record store melting pot from Bat For Lashes to Wu Lyf and The Crystal Ark.

WU LYF - L Y F

L Y F (we are led to believe you are supposed to say that slowly, in a Madchester drawl) is the first official single from WU LYF's debut album Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, which is scheduled to be released on June 13.

WU LYF will be making their debut Australian live appearance at this year's Vivid Live festival, playing on two consecutive nights - May 30 and 31 - in the intimate Studio space. More info here.

Stephen Pavlovic Talks Vivid Live Lineup

Earlier this week at Modular HQ we sat down with Stephen Pavlovic and asked him to share his thoughts on a few of the artists on the Vivid Live lineup. This is what he had to say.

WU LYF

WU LYF itself remains an enigma born from a disenfranchised group of kids residing in Manchester. LYF stands for Lucifer Youth Foundations and membership is available for fifteen pounds. Apart from the seductive whimsey of their blog, WU LYF have gained notoriety for their rousing live performances that feel as though they are staged in a cathedral of angst and energy. The music is unique, powerfully emotive and astoundingly well structured considering the band has only been together for around a year.
